Much, much better mindset today on my run – I was focussed but didn’t push hard (it was scheduled as a long slow run after all) and things just seemed to come together well today. I did 13.1 miles / 3 laps of my neighbourhood and in end this came out to be the fastest I have done this distance during a training run this fall. So that was a nice surprise after how hard a push things were yesterday.
That’s the last of the long training runs before my last half marathon race this fall coming up on Saturday October 19th – the WFPS (Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services) half marathon. I am obviously ready to do the distance but I am unsure where I am with looking to beat my old PR from back in 2002 for the half distance (1:46:11). I was at 1:47:50 for the Fort Garry Rotary Club half marathon on September 22nd and I think I am in better shape than I was then as I continue to improve and ramp up the miles looking toward Goofy Challenge 2014 – but the question is if I am in enough better shape to make up that extra 99 seconds! I am going to have to come up with a game plan for the upcoming race to make sure I don’t go nuts at the start and bonk at the end.
With it being Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada this weekend I will also have to watch the calorie intake so that my weight doesn’t go nuts either – I was 219 before the start of my last half and I would like to be 4-5 pounds lower than that for this one – should be possible but I have to watch myself.
Today’s weight was 218 when I got up and 215 after the run – with the normal fluctuations my body weight goes through 214-215 should be possible for next Saturday morning – just have to stay focussed!
