9 miles in the heat and humidity (29C – 84F with 90% humidity) in 1:28:03 – like running through warm soup

I got up early this morning to run (was out of the house at 6:30 am) to try and avoid the major heat today – it was already pretty hot with the humidity when I started and when I finished at 8 am it was 29C / 84F with the 90% humidity…there was a very thick quality to the air – there was also some major smoke in the air in one area I ran which didn’t help.

I don’t normally take any liquid on a run less than 10 miles but I did today to be safe – finished a half bottle of gatorade on the run and I was still down over 3 pounds over the hour and a half of running. Definitely hot out there!

I took it easy on the run as well, not wanting to push it and hurt myself since we aren’t really used to the summer heat here yet. But 1:28:03 for 9 miles was respectable – not fast by any means but I felt good so it was a positive run.

It is supposed to get up to near 40C (104F) this afternoon so I think I will leave mowing the lawn until Monday when it is supposed to be a bit more moderate out. I also have an 18 miler to do tomorrow and it is supposed to be another toasty one (but not quite so bad as today) so that should be interesting. Will mean another early morning tomorrow to try to beat the heat.

I guess I am going to be spending the rest of today in the pool though!
