I had an 18 miler planned for Sunday but with sleeping in and then the heat I did not get out in time to get it done. So I intended to do it later in the day once it cooled off a bit…but then I managed to cook myself pretty good while out in the pool with the kids in the afternoon and the run did not happen.
I had the Monday off work so I decided to try and make it up then but again got started later than I would have wanted and had to cut my run short so my wife could go to work and I would look after the kids. In the end on Monday I did a total of 13.1 miles – 8.5 outside at the best speed I have done outside since the Manitoba Marathon in June and then 4.6 on the treadmill in an ok time. Not the full 18 I wanted to get in but not horrible.
And then I felt truly awful last night after work and supper – had a major headache and felt nauseous after climbing stairs or doing any kind of activity. I had to let the planned 5 miler go for last night to see if I could get that sorted out.
So that brings us to today – I had 8 planned and I half thought about bumping that up so that I could get some of those missed miles back but in the end I played it smart and backed off. The first half hour was a lesson in frustration – 2 phone calls, an emergency washroom break and had to stop and reposition the fan twice. The second half hour was good giving me a total of 8.22 miles in an hour – out of that I walked a total of 4 minutes (all of which were in the first half hour).
A bit frustrating at this point for the month of July so far being 9 miles off schedule already but I had a glimpse of decent running on Monday morning and in the last half of the run tonight. Still staying positive but really have to watch my diet and sleep at this point and try to get back on track!
