Dopey Challenge Training weeks 10, 11 and some of 12 – slow progress

by

Hi everyone – just a quick catch up here!

I’ll state right up front that the running over the past couple weeks has not been what I wanted, but I am healthy and ready to keep pushing forward.

Longest run in the past couple of weeks was 13.1 miles with several shorter runs thrown in as well. I have been sick a few times during this period (my stomach was off for most of a week) and that really impacted what I have run.

There has been a bunch of other stuff going on over the past couple weeks that have eaten into my normal running times and unfortunately I was not able to adapt and move my runs to different days to make that work. A bit of an excuse there but I realize that the issue is on me to resolve.

That being said lots of our commitments have been completed and I should be able to concentrate more on getting the runs in.

With that in mind I ran this morning, I should have gone long but instead did some speed work for 3.5 miles and I have longer runs planned for tomorrow (Sunday) and Monday to rebuild my confidence again.

Once those are done there are only 5 weeks until my travel day for the Dopey Challenge – that doesn’t give me a lot of time and I have already accepted that I will need to do a lot of walking (even with doing the run-walk method) to complete but I am confident that I will complete the challenge. That alone is an improvement as in September I wouldn’t have necessarily had that same confidence – which kind of shows how far I had fallen – I have done 2 Dopey Challenges previously and 5 other Goofy Challenges on top of those as well as a few ultras too – to not have confidence in finishing was not a feeling I enjoyed.

With that being said I know my time won’t be great…but hopefully I will have a good time! If nothing else it will be some Florida sun and some time to hang out with my brother.

Alright – I am going to end this one here but watch for more videos coming soon – I will be getting back on schedule for once a week for the updates and I should be throwing in some other videos here and there as I get used to running with my gimbal again. Have a look at some of my videos from last year’s Dopey Challenge to see some cool, smooth video through the parks!
