I decided to take it a bit easier on the treadmill tonight – it is our anniversary tonight (did our couple’s night on the weekend) and we went out for dinner with the kids and since I had a larger dinner than normal (plus a beer), doing speed work seemed like an extremely bad idea.
I had been tempted to not run at all tonight but I needed a recovery run after the 17.4 mile run on Sunday plus I wanted to give the treadmill a bit of a test after it decided to let out a weird smell for the wife on the weekend. There was almost a burning smell coming from the treadmill on the weekend – it didn’t smell like burnt electronics or motor but I couldn’t narrow down where it had come from. So I gave a full maintenance to it last night by vacuuming out the motor compartment, lubricating the deck and lubing the roller bearings but I didn’t get to test it out after.
So I wanted to test it tonight but didn’t want to risk running it too fast, I figured if I went strong and steady I would be able to also monitor how the treadmill was doing (while keeping supper where it was supposed to be). Luckily there seemed to be no issues for the treadmill – not sure what caused the smell on the weekend but the maintenance seems to have cleaned it up. fingers crossed.
I started with a short warm up walking for 0.16 miles in 2.5 minutes at 10% incline then moved into a 7 mph run for 25 minutes and finished with 5 minutes at 8 mph with the full run at 1%. No walking breaks. Run felt very good (especially for having a big supper in me) – it felt like I could go forever at 7 mph – shows how far I have come in the past year!
