#trainingrun – 17.4 miles in 2:44:01 outside – felt good but bonked about at around 16.5 miles

Solid run in the cool weather this morning (actually dressed for it today – I can learn!).  I had 18 miles / 4 laps scheduled today but according to my Garmin apparently 4 laps is actually 17.4 miles.  I realized that I was going to be short and thought about doing an out and back run to make up 3 full hours which would have put me closer to 19 miles but at around 16.5 miles I felt considerable bonking.  I had been fuelling through the run but apparently not enough.  This was also my first run over half marathon distance since the Manitoba Marathon in June so it isn’t a real surprise that the muscles didn’t have the stored fuel – they haven’t been training to push that far in several months!

The first 3 laps (13.1 miles) came in around 2:01 – which was pretty good for what was supposed to be a long slow run.  That is the fastest I have done that distance in a training run yet this fall and considering I was holding back knowing I wanted to go another 4.5 – 5 miles beyond the half it was definitely a good run.  It gives me hope for the WFPS Half Marathon – still have hope for that PR (must beat 1:46:11 to catch my current best from 2002)!

Weight was up a touch this morning (219.5) but the wife and I went out for supper last night to celebrate our anniversary in a couple days and I probably ate too much (yeah “probably”…).  That meal definitely showed in my weight this morning but it should settle out quickly.  After the run I had dropped to 213.5 – pretty crazy drop in weight on a run considering I made sure I was hydrating.  Making sure I am hydrating now!

Either way a good morning all around.
