Happy New Year 2013

Happy New Year!  Hope everyone had a good New Year’s Eve.

The new year is always a good time to sit back and assess what the last year has been like and to determine what you might like to change in the upcoming year.  I understand the symbolism of starting a new year off with a positive attitude and a plan for who you want to be this year but it doesn’t quite fit with the Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge falling about a week and a half into the new year – for example it doesn’t make sense to say “I will exercise more this year!” when I am training for a full and half marathon a little over a week from now…

So instead I think I will be counting January 14th as my New Years Day – I will be continuing my current plan up to and including the Goofy Challenge and then the night of the 13th will be my New Years Eve.  I will see how the races go and then sit down and reassess.  There are things I already know I need to do in the new year but I’m not going to make a resolution right now and take away from what I have been doing with my training so far by picking it apart now – if I have been doing something wrong there is no time to really fix it now – it will have to wait until after the event is over.

After the Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge is done I will be making up my plan for the 52 weeks coming after that – there are a few general things I will mention now but I will post something with more detail after the Goofy is completed.  Some general thoughts about what I would like to accomplish in the next 52 weeks:

  • Continue the weight loss – things have currently stagnated with the holidays, etc so things will need to be reassessed to get back on track here
  • Winnipeg Police Services half marathon – haven’t done this in a few years and if I make it through the Goofy healthy then this race will fall nicely into place during the training for…
  • Manitoba Marathon – again I haven’t done this for a while but if the Goofy goes well and I can continue my training and weight loss while staying healthy I have a shot of hitting my personal best

I will post more of a real game plan after the Goofy is over and I have had time to reassess.

Again – Happy New Year everyone!
