Hey there – this is just a quick leader post to talk about this new blog that I started. More content will come soon!
Basically I decided to start this site/blog as a way to discuss and document my journey to running the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge at Disney World in Jan 2013.
I have done the Goofy twice before but always with the mindset of just finishing. I have done very well at marathons before (4:15:01 for personal best) for a guy my size (about 220 pounds) but at some point after getting married, having a few kids and added stress at work I never seemed to be able to get back in shape. So after a few years of hovering around 250-260 and just finishing the long distance races I was doing I realized that I was no longer a long distance runner carrying extra weight but was a fat guy trying to be a long distance runner.
Once this finally registered this year back in September I realized that if I was going to do the Goofy again I was going to try to do it right. I had to reset my brain and start from scratch – train hard, lose weight, keep a positive attitude and try to document what I was doing in order to stay motivated.
It is now early December and I am down 20 pounds and have been solidly following a plan that should have me finishing both the half and the full in good times.
I have been documenting my progress and what I have been doing to make that progress in a few formats – I will be taking that data and creating blog posts in the next week or so to show the progress and what I have done. I will mark the posts based on the dates I have in that documentation and will provide editorial comments to provide updates and clean up.
I also intend to blog up to and including the Goofy this year and then continue on through the coming year about a variety of topics including continuing my weight loss and trying to get ready for other races. I will also talk about Disney stuff in general and my family’s experiences at Disney World.
Hopefully people will find the site useful and maybe a little entertaining.
Please enjoy and comment.
Thanks.
Note that anything dated prior to Dec 5, 2012 was back dated when it was posted to align with dates on my training notes I had been keeping.
