The following is cleaned up info from some of the info I started to write to motivate myself when I signed up to do the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge in Jan 2013 – I also have kind of added comments to myself now that I am looking back at things and have a different perspective:
Note that chronologically on the site this shows as the first post but when I put up all the posts prior to Dec 5, 2012 I back dated them to align with my Word notes. Actual first post.
So I finally pulled the trigger and signed up for the 2013 Goofy Race and a Half Challenge. I did it in 2012 with my brother but I didn’t really train properly and didn’t do nearly as well as I would have liked (go figure). Entered on September 4th, 2012 at my wife Heather’s insistence. I think that buy in will be huge to make sure I don’t feel too guilty when I am out for a run instead of being home with the kids.
I did a 10 mile run on the treadmill – I did it pretty slow at approx 100 minutes but I felt surprisingly good as it was my first double digit mile run since the Goofy in Jan 2012.
To give myself a starting goal for the 2 races I decided on 2 hrs 10 min for the half and 4 hrs 30 min for the full. The numbers probably weren’t very realistic considering where I was starting from but it certainly has been helping drive harder training. Driving to do better instead of just to finish – I know I can finish but that doesn’t help me get better.
The concept of writing down my thoughts occasionally as a way to help motivate myself and to track what I have accomplished came to me at this point. I started writing everything in a word document with headings for each day I decided to write something. As time went on I did find this very motivating and realized I kind of enjoyed it and figured maybe blogging might not be a bad idea – and thus this site was born.
I will probably be adding another post for Sept 9th for a history on my weight.
