To avoid the -50C windchills this morning I ran on the treadmill…again. 9 miles in 67:51 @ 1% incline.
I felt pretty solid for the run and went back to an old standby for cutting the boredom on the treadmill – constantly ramping until I hit a max and then backing off and doing it again. I would start at around either 6.6 or 7 mph and then every minute I would bump my speed 0.2 mph until I would max out around 9.4 mph for a minute and then I would back off and walk a minute or start a new cycle at 7mph.
This technique really helped get me through this morning – I started feeling pretty rough and slow but by the end of 9 miles I was still running better than I was at the start. Definitely felt good and will keep using this technique on the mid-long runs as long as I am doing them on the treadmill.
Feb miles totalled at 104.91 and with today’s run I am 246.59 for 2014 so far.
