It was a rough start tonight – legs were very tight and it took a good 5-10 minutes to get things worked out there but I managed to push through. I can tell I was running pretty tight though as my back feels like it is ready to have a good spasm – hopefully that relaxes soon.
I had 7 one minute walk breaks during the period and spent the rest at pretty even splits between 7, 7.5 and 8 mph. I also had probably about 5 minutes at 9 mph mixed in there including the last minute of the run. It was good to know I still have enough in the tank at the end to push hard.
The run was good mentally as well even though it maybe wasn’t quite as fast as I would have liked. I have trouble motivating myself to get on the treadmill for a period longer than an hour – I prefer to do those runs outside but the with the current weather and my need to push a faster pace I need to do the work inside right now (at least on weekdays). But I managed to poke myself to get on the treadmill and one of the things that helped was putting some scenery videos on the computer screen I have facing the treadmill. I usually have marathon videos rolling to help motivate but at this point I need to take a break from those on these mid length runs. So I figured I would try scenery videos and my usual music mix and see what would happen. It worked pretty well – sometimes all you need is a bit of a change to push through a barrier.
After the run I did some math and it looks like I have 189.5 training miles left to go until the Goofy Challenge – and our travel day is 35 days from tomorrow morning. Starting to get real!
