Looks like the Disney World Dopey Challenge filled up this morning – it was hovering at 99% last night and it bumped over to full mid morning today. The Goofy Challenge is sitting around 55% as I write this and was 51% when the Dopey was at 99% – this probably means that about half of the Goofy slots were reserved for Dopey runners. In 2013 there were around 7500 Goofy runners (based on the results linked from the runDisney site) – so maybe around 3750 Dopey runners for the inaugural run? That’s pretty impressive numbers in about 8-9 days.
While Dopey wasn’t likely to be a fit for me this year financially and time wise, I still had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to do it, at least on some level. After I heard about the tragedy in Boston though I found myself back at the runDisney site half hoping that they might have opened up more spots. I think in my mind I am feeling driven to do it now as a rejection of the awful events in Boston today.
I think I will find myself checking back on the runDisney site over the next few weeks with this still in my head. I will have to see where my head ends up but maybe a Goofy will happen this year….
