It’s going to be warm? That changes things…

As a survivor of the now infamous 2010 Disney Marathon with the freezing rain and snow, I find that I start to watch the Orlando weather forecast like a hawk starting a few weeks out from the Disney Marathon weekend – always with a touch of fear if the trend seems to be in the downward direction.

This year the trend seems to be going the other way and it kind of changes things a bit.  The current forecast of this evening is for mid 20’s (C) for the highs and lows in the mid teens.  This is a bit warmer than I was expecting and it could play a factor in the runs.  The half will be over before it gets too hot out (unless it doesn’t cool down enough overnight) but depending how things go on the full things could be quite toasty by the time I finish.  This is definitely something to keep in mind – I have noticed lately that I probably haven’t been hydrating enough on the longer runs and if it gets hot this will definitely not be a good thing.  I will need to ensure that I am hydrating well – this will mean that I will definitely need to make sure I have a water bottle with me during the run.  Disney has plenty of water stations on the courses but you really can’t be too careful if it is going to be hot out.

The heat will also make the Saturday afternoon period interesting.  Between the half and the full you absolutely need to rest and take it easy but you are at Disney World and you want to go out and explore so it is always a balancing act.  I find that I tend to do at least some walking around and doing some easy exploring to keep the legs from stiffening up too much.  There is a risk in doing that this year if it is too hot – it will mean I really have to watch how much wandering around I do but also will have to be very conscious of hydrating properly.  Should be interesting!
