236 when woke up
Comment Dec 15: even though this post is marked the 10 it was added on the 15th – it was posted originally to my personal tracking document and wasn’t added to the site until later as I didn’t quite have the site set up yet to be ready for current posts
Calendar items for the past little while:
Dec 4th – 5 miles in 45:50 min with no cheating – 1 min @ 4 mph and reminder @ 6.6 mph – 238 after run (was 238 when woke up that morning)
Dec 5th – did not run – ended up doing the 10 miler that was scheduled on the 6th instead and gave up on a 5 miler – had to do errands for Heather and her mother – was after 9 before could have started to run so didn’t as that would have been too late.(was 237 when woke up that morning)
Dec 6th – 236 after 10 mile run – 94:30 – only about 4 min of walking rest was alternating 5 min segments of 6.6 mph and 6.2 mph (was 237.5 when woke up that morning)
Dec 8th – Exam (approx 2.5 hrs) – 10 mile on treadmill – approx 95.5 min with some stops to change shows, etc – was -25 with the windchill plus it was snowing pretty good so ran on treadmill. 234 after the run (238.5 when woke up – had lots of sugar cookies the night before – was 235.5 the morning of the 7th (was obviously dehydrated on the 7th too))
Dec 9th – 20 miles in 202 min – 233.5 after run – drank around 1 litre of water and 1.5 litre of coke – 6 mini donuts and 5 spearmint leaves – ran too fast at the start which meant more coke and then a trip to the bathroom and being drained at the end – need to force myself to go slower in the beginning(236.5 when woke up). Run was done on the treadmill as it was waaaaaaay too cold outside.
Weight loss seems to have started progressing again – I switched from the almonds to hard boiled eggs again this week and that seems to have helped. 236 this morning which is 2 pounds behind where I planned so that can hit 230 on the 24th. It is still possible if this week goes well and then the final rough week does its job as well.
The Saturday and Sunday longer runs this week were done on the treadmill for a few reasons this week – one was to save some time (travel time and also being able to force a quicker run on the treadmill) but mostly the temperatures – both Sat and Sun were around the -34 C mark with the windchill – Frankly with that kind of temperature I am just not prepared to spend over 3 hours outside (such as the Sunday run) – to top it off on Saturday there was about 3 cm of snow fall which would have made the roads crappy. This would have been on top of the real nasty ice we got the middle of the week. Unless things turn around for the weather I think the last of the outdoor runs has already occurred. We will have to see this coming weekend with the shorter runs but unless temps get back to something reasonable like -10 / -15 I can’t see doing any longer runs outside before getting to Florida. This means I have to pay attention and try to eliminate any cheating while on the treadmill in order to get a better mental picture for where I am and what I can do. This will definitely weigh on my mind going forward since I won’t have as good a picture of my level of fitness.
This week was very rough mentally as well as being a tough week running wise – extra things kept getting added even though there was no time to relax as it was – between having to do extra work for Heather’s Mom, having to go to Heather’s friends’ place for a small party, having the exam and no time to study, etc – very painful. The Phineas and Ferb show was good though and the kids did very well and everyone throughly enjoyed it – I will be trying to write up a review of the show to publish.
I am so fried right now I just want to curl up and sleep.
Also found out the course instructor can’t give out the final grades directly as the University has to do it themselves which means even though it is all done there is still stress until the marks are in – yay!!
So plan for the next 2 weeks is to push hard on the weekday runs to do as much as possible at 6.6 mph without any kind of cheating – should be ok on any 5 and 6 milers but harder on any 10s but still worth doing. The final 20 I will have to make darned sure I start out slower – this should help me maintain a decent speed longer and hopefully finish stronger. We won’t have anything planned on the 23rd so I should be able to take it slow without feeling that I have to rush it. If I can try for an average of 6.2 to 6 mph for the first couple of hours and maintain that further and maybe through the 3rd hour that should mean that the 4:30 full is still possible – it will have to be done without cheating though to improve confidence. If I find myself cheating I need to slow down and run properly as it is very important to get a clear idea of where I stand.
Weight goal is still 230 for the 24th (or the 27th would be acceptable) – then being 227 before we leave for Orlando – this would be a full 30 pound weight loss which would be awesome. The over 20 pounds so far is fantastic but if I can keep up the weight loss the better I will be. Ideally 227 on the morning of January 7th would be best – I could then start carb loading without worrying about watching my weight.
