About BigGoofyRunner

Hi there!

BigGoofyRunner started as a way for me (Ted) to write about my experiences trying to get back in shape and train for the 2013 Goofy Race and a Half Challenge in Disney World in January 2013.  Originally it covered the period of September 2012 to January 2013 but after I completed the Goofy (my third) I decided to continue the site and keep track of my additional training and attempts to lose weight as I had not accomplished all I wanted to in regards to my weight and my training – the journey continues!

So now I’m a couple years into this journey (it being mid December 2014 as I write this intro) I have completed my 4th Goofy Challenge (in January 2014), my 9th full marathon (Manitoba Marathon in June 2014) and my 14th half marathon (WFPS Half Marathon in October). On top of all of that I completed my first ultra marathon this year – the 12 hour Lemming Loop here in Winnipeg in October finishing a total of 49.2785 miles.

Edit – May 30th, 2015 – I completed my 5th Goofy Challenge in January 2015 as part of the Dopey Challenge set of races. You can see my overview of the WDW Full Marathon run with lots of pictures of the characters through the link, and a general overview of the first 3 races of the Dopey Challenge here. Since then I have also done 2 additional half marathons getting me to a total of 17 half marathons, 10 full marathons, 5 Goofy Challenges, 1 Dopey Challenge and 1 12 hour race. Not too bad for a guy sitting at around 225 pounds having started from 257.

Edit – December 20th, 2017 – Just realized how completely out of date this page is right now – I will endeavor to get it up to date soon. Since this was last updated I have now gotten up to 6 Goofy Challenge events completed, 13 full marathons and 3 more ultra marathons (another 12 hour with 50.33 miles, a 24 hour hitting 53.35 miles before I bowed out with ankle issues and a 50k). I think I am also up at 21 half marathons at this point as well. I will be doing my second Dopey Challenge in January 2018 (also giving me my 7th Goofy Challenge)

Edit – April 27, 2018 – Another quick update – I did complete the Dopey Challenge in January 2018 and had a lot of fun. I wasn’t in great shape since I had been fighting ankle issues for most of a year with my right achilles tendon. I did get that sorted to do the challenge but shortly after I got home from that event I ended up hurting my left ankle and months later I am still trying to get it properly sorted out. So running hasn’t been going great but I have big plans – so stay tuned!!

Edit – Jan 4, 2020 – Lots has changed since the last update on this page. We changed how we do YouTube for a start – we used to have my running channel and a family channel but it was becoming too much to keep both up to date – so now we use only BigGoofyRunner & Family on YouTube.

As of this edit, I am getting prepped to go to Disney World for my 9th Goofy Challenge which includes my 16th marathon (have done 3 Dopey Challenges over the years as well as 4 ultramarathons and many half marathons).

Going forward we are going more focused on YouTube and concentrate on getting healthier in general – we will throw in Disney content as well and occasional fun videos with the kids – but it is all about getting healthier now.

I have been plagued with recurring injuries for the past few years and my weight and training has suffered – so now is the time to get healthier and I will come back to marathon running later when it fits in.

My wife Heather also completed her first Goofy Challenge (and marathon) in January 2014.
