3.1 miles in 24:17 – steady / focused taper run – miles are ticking by leading to Manitoba Marathon on Sunday!

by

I spent some time in the pool tonight right after work with the kids – managed to get in some resistance training while I was there. Then time for a quick supper and some quick computer work before getting on the treadmill.

I went into the run tonight just wanting to do a nice steady pace but after 5 minutes at 7.3 mph, I couldn’t help myself and bumped up the speed by 0.2 mph…then did it again 5 minutes later, and again 5 minutes after that. Ended up doing the last 4:17 at 8.1 mph. I felt good the whole time, nice and strong with no aches or pains in my knee or hamstrings. So far it looks like I am going into the Manitoba Marathon healthy. Yeehah!

I still have a 4 mile run tomorrow and then a break until doing a 2 mile leg stretch on Saturday leading up to the Manitoba Marathon on Sunday. I am looking forward to this one – if I stay healthy and focused my full PR of 4:15:01 should fall. I should have broken it at the Goofy Challenge in January but had a few issue there that cost me, those issues shouldn’t come up again so now is the time to make this happen!

I am apparently also going into the race with a positive attitude (so far) – that is kind of nice, a bit of a change of pace. Cool!
