10.1 miles in 1:27:30 outside – That felt great! Looks like finished just in time – snow and ice hitting my window

Got in a very solid outdoor run this morning.  I needed to get moving early as they are calling for an inch of snow (or more) combined with rain while hovering around freezing temperatures. I can handle the weather but I wanted to run before the paths maybe got icy again.

I got home and showered after the run just before ice pellets started falling.  Good timing there.  I can handle snow or rain fairly easily but ice pellets suck – depending on the wind they can bloody hurt!

That aside, I felt very good out running this morning, no fueling issues, legs felt great and I was able to keep my mind in the game and moderately push.  I did 2 laps around my neighborhood getting me around 8.8 miles and then I did an out and back to finish off the 10 – which I misjudged by a tiny bit giving me a final total of 10.1 miles in 1:27:30.  Second lap was faster than the first which was nice – part of that was finding out where there were still ice patches on the first lap and avoiding them during the second one but still pace was very consistent.  The final out and back was pretty good as well and I sustained over 8 mph for a few minutes without any issues.

All in all a very good run outside – my best outside so far this season (bloody weather) – but I still felt a bit slow.  I think as I get used to running outside again I will get faster and my times will be a bit closer to what I have been doing on the treadmill.  We’ll see how that goes but for today I am happy with how I did.
